Notes: Medicare beneficiaries limited to noninstitutionalized population (e.g.,
excludes those in nursing homes) age 65 and older. Both racial categories exclude
persons of Latino ethnicity.
Individuals were classified as having a chronic condition if they have reported
seeing a doctor or other health professional for at least one of the following
conditions in the past two years: diabetes, arthritis, asthma, COPD (chronic
obstructive pulmonary disease), coronary heart disease (includes angina, arterial
fibrillation, congestive heart failure, bypass surgery, angioplasty, heart disease,
myocardial infarction), hypertension, cancer and/or depression.
