Researchers in hundreds of organizations have used data from the Household Survey and Physician Survey, which are available as public use files. The various organizations downloading the data include university faculty and students, researchers at think tanks and trade associations and government researchers.

One effort to encourage researchers to take advantage of the Community Tracking Study (CTS) and Health Tracking household survey and physician survey public use files has been The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) solicitation of grant proposals through its Changes in Health Care Financing and Organization (HCFO) program.
