Adjusted Odds Ratios for Not Purchasing At Least One Prescription Drug in 2001 Because of Cost: Persons 18-64

A statistically significant odds ratio > 1 indicates persons with this characteristic were more likely than the reference group to report not having purchased all of their prescription drugs in 2001 because of cost when all the other factors in the model are held constant. Similarly, those with a statistically significant odds ratio < 1 were less likely not to have purchased at least one prescription drug in 2001 because of cost. For example, the odds ratio of 3.21 for African Americans with chronic conditions indicates that this group was significantly more likely than the reference group (whites without chronic conditions) to not have purchased all of their prescription drugs in 2001 because they couldn't afford to, even when socioeconomic conditions and health status are taken into account.
