Recent Developments in Health Care Markets and Policy Implications

Sept. 9, 2002
Cara S. Lesser

Presentation:

ara Lesser, senior health researcher and director of HSC’s site visits, spoke at the Federal Trade Commission Workshop on Competition in Health Care Markets on Monday, September 9. Drawing on observations from tracking health care markets across the country, Lesser’s speech provided an overview of two major trends shaping health care markets since 1996—the growth and subsequent retreat from tightly managed care and consolidation. She discussed the effects these trends have had on market dynamics and health care costs and highlighted lessons learned about the nature of competition in health care markets.
